Getting Around in Beijing

Subway

Beijing's subway network is highly developed, covering nearly every corner of the city.

Ticketing:

Purchase tickets at automated machines (supports WeChat Pay, Alipay, and some international credit cards) or ticket counters (supports cash RMB and international credit cards).

Use mobile apps like "Yitongxing" (scan QR code after linking WeChat/Alipay) or Alipay/WeChat transit codes (scan after activation).

Foreign bank cards can be used at some machines or counters.

Fare: ¥3–10 (check in-station displays or the "Yitongxing" app).

Taxi

Traditional taxis

Queue at designated stands at airports/train stations or hail on the street where permitted.

Ride-hailing

Use apps like Didi Chuxing, Alipay, or WeChat to book.

Payment: Cash, Alipay, or WeChat Pay.

Fare:Base fare: ¥13 for the first 3 km, then ¥2.3/km.

Surcharge: +50% beyond 15 km; +20% from 11:00 PM–5:00 AM.

Bus

Use the "Beijing Yikatong" app (English version available) to check routes.

Payment methods:

Scan WeChat/Alipay transit codes (after activation in the app).

Cash (exact change).

Bus IC card (purchased/recharged at subway stations).

Fare: ¥1–2 for regular buses; long-distance/special routes vary.

Car Rental

Requirements: International driver’s license (some companies may require a notarized Chinese translation) + credit card.

  Subway:

  Take the Airport Express to Sanyuanqiao → Transfer to Line 10 (toward Shaoyaoju) → Transfer to Line 13 (toward Wangjing West) → Transfer to Line 15 (toward Guozhan Station).Fare: ¥30 total (Airport Express ¥25 + subway ¥5).

  

  Bus: Take Konggang Bus Route 10 to Guozhan Station (~50 mins, ¥3).

  

  Taxi: ~30 mins, ~¥35 (varies with traffic).

  Take Daxing Airport Express to Caoqiao - Transfer to Line 19(toward Mudanyuan)-Transfer to Line 10 (toward HuixinxijieNankou)-Transfer to Line 5 (toward Tiantongyuan North)Transfer to Line 15 (toward Guozhan Station).Fare: -¥42 total(Airport Express ¥35 + subway ￥7).
