At the 2026 CIAACE Beijing Show, a noticeable trend emerged in the A3 and A4 Auto Accessories Halls — the prime display positions of almost all car floor mat manufacturers were occupied by TPE floor mats. The most prominent spots on exhibition booths were filled almost exclusively with TPE material floor mats.
More importantly, the adaptation to new energy vehicle models has also become a major focus for manufacturers. A wide range of color options matching original factory interior designs have been introduced, aiming to achieve “full-vehicle integration and visual harmony.” This signals that the era of “whole-car interior customization” has officially begun.
First, TPE floor mats offer excellent fitment and easy installation with virtually no installation barriers. Unlike carpet-style or coil floor mats, which often require careful positioning, flattening, or additional fixing, TPE floor mats are produced using 3D scanning technology to precisely capture the original vehicle carpet structure. Through custom molds, they achieve edge-to-edge fitting with a seamless fit, making installation effortless — anyone can install them without any professional skills or complicated procedures.

Second, TPE floor mats are water-resistant and easy to maintain. The dense, non-porous surface structure of TPE material prevents stains and liquids from penetrating, allowing dirt to remain on the surface for easy cleaning. Even heavy stains can be removed with a simple three-minute water rinse, and the mats can be wiped dry and immediately reinstalled without the need for drying time. In contrast, the gaps in coil floor mats tend to trap dust, dirt, and moisture. Under high-temperature summer conditions, water and contaminants brought in from shoe soles can easily create unpleasant odors and promote bacterial growth.
Another key advantage is that TPE floor mats are environmentally friendly and odor-free. For families with infants, young children, or pregnant women, maintaining healthy in-car air quality has become an essential requirement. High-quality TPE floor mats are therefore considered a product designed specifically to meet these needs, offering a safer and more comfortable driving environment.
The first challenge is price. A high-quality set of TPE floor mats typically costs between RMB 300 and 800, while PVC or coil floor mats are usually priced between RMB 100 and 300. For owners of family cars in the RMB 100,000 price range, spending several hundred yuan more on a set of floor mats can indeed feel like a significant extra expense. Moreover, many car owners still consider floor mats to be consumable accessories, believing that there is no need to purchase such expensive products.

The second challenge is the large number of small manufacturers in the industry, which has weakened consumer confidence. The main production processes for TPE floor mats include injection molding and thermoforming, and the entry barrier for setting up a factory is relatively low. For example, the cost of a thermoforming mold can be as low as RMB 30,000–50,000. Similar to many other industries, some small manufacturers reduce costs by adding recycled materials or low-quality raw materials into production. As a result, the “environmental and safety advantages” of TPE floor mats can become nothing more than a marketing slogan.
Based on the above factors, one conclusion is clear: TPE floor mats will not “take over the entire market” in the short term, but they will continue to secure their rightful position. Coil floor mats will remain valuable due to their price advantage and continue to serve a large segment of the market. Leather-style full-coverage floor mats will maintain demand in business and premium vehicle scenarios because of their upscale appearance. TPE floor mats, meanwhile, are better suited for consumers who prioritize environmental safety, healthy interiors, and convenient maintenance.

For consumers considering TPE floor mats, the most important advice is simple: choose reputable brands and verify the use of pure TPE materials and environmental certifications. Whether produced through injection molding or thermoforming, TPE floor mats made from genuine new TPE materials and certified through testing organizations such as SGS can achieve low odor and environmentally friendly performance. In most cases, the real problem is not choosing the wrong manufacturing process — it is choosing the wrong brand.
