Chinese Automotive Supply Chain Shines at 2025 Munich Motor Show

Sep. 12, 2025

The 2025 Munich Motor Show has once again highlighted a key trend: the growing influence of China in the global automotive industry. Among the 748 exhibitors, the number of Chinese companies rose from over 70 in the previous edition to 116 this year—accounting for one-third of all overseas exhibitors and outnumbering any other country outside Germany. From complete vehicles to batteries, smart cockpits, chips, LiDAR, and software algorithms, Chinese companies have effectively brought a full smart electric vehicle ecosystem to Munich.

Compared with two years ago, when the European market seemed cautious toward Chinese automakers, this year’s show reflected a more pragmatic approach. Conversations shifted from “China’s supply chain” as a headline topic to being a standard part of industrial cooperation. This shift reveals a broader industry trend: in the face of global electrification and intelligent mobility, European automakers now recognize the strength of Chinese automakers and suppliers, regardless of previous perceptions.

Chinese carmakers demonstrated their capability to meet European consumer demands. For instance, Leapmotor’s Lafa5 and B10 SUV showcased competitive pricing and product appeal, with the B10 starting under €30,000. Beyond sales, Chinese companies are localizing their operations in Europe: BYD and Chery have set up production capacities, XPeng opened its first European R&D center in Munich, and Leapmotor now operates over 1,700 sales outlets across Europe.

Battery giant CATL continues to expand its influence, building on a 43% European market penetration with new products and factory plans, including localized after-sales support. Leading Chinese intelligent driving companies and supply chain players—Horizon Robotics, Black Sesame Technologies, Momenta, QCraft, Zhijia Continental, ThunderSoft, Desay SV, StarDrive, Zejing Electronics, Hesai Technology, and others—were all present, presenting cutting-edge solutions and signaling confidence in European markets.

Years of intense domestic competition have enabled Chinese companies to grow comprehensively: strong products, cost efficiency, and localized services. This combination makes collaboration with European partners a natural choice, effectively opening new opportunities for Chinese suppliers in Europe.

The 2025 Munich Motor Show demonstrates a broader industrial consensus: Chinese automakers and suppliers are no longer outsiders but key contributors to the global transformation of mobility. Going forward, we can expect European EVs equipped with Chinese batteries and intelligent driving chips, and Chinese overseas factories producing vehicles that meet European standards. Chinese automotive products are now increasingly global, driving a deeper integration that represents one of the most practical paths toward industry transformation.
